We guide Government’s strategic engagement with culture, heritage, and arts by facilitating transformative community experiences, responsibly managing our cultural legacy, and empowering practitioners to evolve indigenous traditions into dynamic modern expressions.
The Department of Culture, Heritage and Arts implements Fiji’s National Cultural Policy (2022-2033) in alignment with Fiji’s National Development Plan (2025-2029). Our local and international engagement is guided by the Pacific Regional Cultural Strategy (2022-2032).
- Fiji National Cultural Policy (2022-2032): As Fiji’s primary policy instrument for cultural development, the National Culture Strategy champions an inclusive approach that values our collective cultural wealth, strengthens community-level cultural initiatives, and positions culture as an integral driver of national transformation and sustainable development for all Fijians.
- Fiji National Development Plan (2025-2029): The Fiji National Development Plan 2025-2029 provides a comprehensive framework for empowering Fiji’s people through unity, ensuring that our rich cultural heritage and vibrant arts sector remain central to the nation’s inclusive development journey.
- Pacific Regional Cultural Strategy (2022-2032): The Pacific Regional Cultural Strategy (2022-2032) honours the rich and diverse cultural heritage of our region and focuses on specific ways by which we might better protect and safeguard traditional knowledge and harness the invaluable contribution of culture to sustainable development efforts at the national and regional levels.’
Our mandate under the Fiji National Cultural Policy (2022-2032) is informed by several key legislative and regulatory instruments. At the fore is the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji which provides the foundational provisions of the rights of all Fijians to their economic, social, and cultural development and liberties
