Our Built Heritage
A built heritage resource, Borron House possess significant historical, architectural and cultural value.
Sitting on Rairaiwaqa (Hill), it stands as a silent witness to forgotten stories, compelling histories, and secrets. The wind, when standing on one of the balconies, whispers lost tales of a house that has seen through so much for decades.
“With breathtaking view of the Suva Peninsula, Borron House stands on the cusp of time with many opportunities ready to unfold” says Director Sipiriano Nemani who paid a visit to Rairaiwaqa with Ms. Imogen Fong, Heritage Architect and Commonwealth Training Champion with the National Trust of Fiji Islands.
Designed by R.A. Derrick, the house and grounds were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1975 and this was later effected under a DeeD of Gift in 1977. Sadly, while some heritage furnishings of the house has been replaced, there are other pieces of history in the house that needs to be safeguarded.
A concerted effort on the preservation of this heritage space needs to be pursued.
We are appreciative to the Ministry of Civil Service (currently manages the property) for allowing our team’s access to the property.
